Thanks to the latest in cosmetic surgery technology, plastic surgery is painless. Although it will depend on the person and the type of procedure, pain and discomfort can occur for two to five days after surgery.
Although the results of plastic surgery are long-lasting, not all are long-lasting. Most plastic surgery procedures last between five and 15 years. For example, face implants usually have a shelf life of 10 years. Other procedures, such as liposuction, can be life-saving if you follow a healthy lifestyle.
Insurance often covers reconstructive surgery that is necessary after an illness or injury. An example is breast reconstruction after a mastectomy for breast cancer. Ask your health insurance agent for details about your coverage.
Ask your plastic surgeon for specific instructions based on the procedures outlined in your medical history. In general, you will be asked to follow healthy habits. This usually means you should stop smoking, avoid aspirin (to reduce bleeding during surgery), exercise regularly, eat a healthy, high-protein diet and maintain watering. You can prepare your home to make getting around easier during recovery, and arrange for a loved one to help you during your recovery.
